St. Paul's branch meetings, with a record number of girls in attendance, has been teeming with activity. Expanding on their knowledge of GFS on a global scale, the girls have been learning about GFS Japan. After raising money to help the GFS World Project which has supported Japan in the wake of the recent earthquake and tsunami, they had a Japanese "high tea." Additionally the girls hosted and baked coffee cakes for a St. Patrick's Day bake sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the church's trip to Nicar...
The Grace & St. Peter's Branch has been continuing programs to help people. For example, they recently held their annual "Souper Bowl" Sunday. Members of all ages helped out in serving soup and raising money for local causes. To see photos from Grace & St. Peter's branch meetings, click here.
The girls at St. Luke's have been hard at work this year making and doing many different things. One of their recent projects was a snowmen craft for the holiday season. Several members from GFS Connecticut has the chance attend the World Council held in Wales this past summer, including Sara Rademacher, GFS USA Youth Delegate; Emma Tanguay, GFS CT Junior Delegate; and Brooke Mommsen, GFS CT Youth Delegate. Not only did the girls experience traditional Welsh culture, sat in on business meetings, and attend religious services, but they reunited with old friends as well as made some new ones. It has been another productive year for the St. Paul's Church branch. Once again, the girls hosted a table at the Holiday Fair, bringing in lots of money to support local causes. This past month several of our GFS Connecticut members travelled to Cape May, New Jersey for the triannual GFS USA National Assembly. At this conference members get to add their input towards national GFS bylaws, elect new board members, and sightsee in the chosen location. This experience shows girls that their branches not only outside of their church, but outside of their state. National Assembly is a great opportunity to meet other GFS members and serves as good practice for GFS World Council, which always comes...
Our St. Paul's Church branch has been busy during its first official year. With the group growing with every passing month, the group is growing not only in size but influence. Completing projects, working on bake sales, and hosting a booth at the Holiday Fair, there has been a lot of activity. Additionally, the girls have been learning what the Girls' Friendly Society is about and what it means to bear one another's burdens. Our Grace & St. Peter's branch has been working on bonding between the girls in their branch this year. This year, for example, they hosted their traditional "Movie Sleepover Night" to bring girls of varying ages and schools closer together.
